Susan Dawson-Tibbits received her B.A. from Illinois State University and her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. She was a legal aid attorney for 19 years, and opened her private law practice in 1999. In January, 2012, she joined the Peoria, Illinois law firm of Johnson, Bunce & Noble, P.C. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, a past chairperson and long-time member of the ISBA Elder Law Section Council, and has been a frequent lecturer on elder law issues at continuing legal education seminars for the ISBA, the Illinois Institute on Continuing Legal Education, and the local bar association. She is a past President of the Peoria County Bar Association, and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She also was a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the Central Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's' Association, serving as its President for several years.
