NC Legacy Planning
I am a native North Carolinian and was born in Wilson. I went to UNC – Chapel Hill and earned a BA in Psychology before attending T.C. Williams School of Law in Richmond, Virginia. After law school I spent some time practicing family law before joining the staff at Legal Aid of North Carolina. While at Legal Aid, I helped clients in a variety of cases, including Medicaid, basic estate planning, landlord-tenant, child custody and domestic violence issues.
I now manage my own firm helping individual clients with Veterans benefits, disability issues, estate planning, asset protection and elder law.
I am admitted in all courts in North Carolina as well as all three Federal District Courts in North Carolina. The Department of Veterans Affairs has accredited me as a representative and I am admitted to the Court of Veterans Appeals.
Over time I began to see that my clients with disabilities and veterans were not obtaining all of the benefits that they may be entitled to and that they were not putting plans in place to protect their families in the event that they become incapacitated or pass away. As a result, I began offering services to these clients, including estate planning, medicaid planning and veterans pension planning.
As the parent of a child with special needs, I have been faced with doing special needs planning in my own life. Planning for the future care for your child can be difficult emotionally for parents, but it is something that all parents must do to protect their children. We try to make this process as easy possible for all families.
As my grandparents have aged I have watched my family struggle to help them make the right choices for their care while trying to allow them as much personal and financial independence as possible. I recognize that when planning is done earlier, rather than later, there are many more options available to families.
