Jurist Law Group PLLC
Mr. Stephens, a native of Conway, Arkansas, graduated cum laude from Harvard University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. While in college, he was awarded the Harvard College Scholarship Award for academic excellence and achieved All-Ivy League Honors in Harvard Varsity Track and served as co-captain of the Men’s Varsity Track Team.
In 1988, Mr. Stephens received his Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of Arkansas School of Law. He was a member of the Arkansas Law Review, served as Editor of the Law School weekly newspaper - The Waterman Journal - and received the Outstanding Oral Advocate Award for Appellate Advocacy. On a creative note, he was a two-time 1st-place prize recipient for his directing and talent performance in the annual law school’s talent competition, Leflar Fest. Mr. Stephens was elected to a two-year term to serve on the 9-member International Board of Directors of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, International, and in 1990, he became one of the youngest recipients of the national Gold Medallion Award for his service and contribution to Delta Theta Phi.
After growing up in a home with a mother who was a successful psychiatrist and upon becoming an attorney, Mr. Stephens worked for over twenty years in hospital administration and executive healthcare management with an emphasis in psychiatric and mental health services. During that time, he found a passion for helping people in times of crisis and need. As a healthcare executive, Mr. Stephens established many programs for the delivery of medical services and served in many capacities, including CEO and general counsel. He dealt with many families and the issues that so often face them when they struggle to get the healthcare services their loved ones want and need. Understanding the delivery of healthcare services has provided Mr. Stephens with a strong background for assisting seniors who are faced with issues of aging while they try to navigate the healthcare maze. It can be a frightening experience for all concerned - particularly when the cost of care exceeds a family’s resources.
Mr. Stephens’ personal experience in dealing with disabling health issues came when his mother was diagnosed with liver cancer in April of 2009. Over the next 19 months, until her death, he witnessed a chain of events that no family should have to go through. Even as a healthcare attorney, Mr. Stephens found himself struggling for answers. After experiencing these issues firsthand, Mr. Stephens committed himself to helping seniors find workable solutions so they can get the quality care they need and want without going broke.
Mr. Stephens is an accredited attorney with the Department of Veterans Affairs and is a member of the Elder Law Section of the Arkansas Bar Association. In addition, Mr. Stephens has served as a member of the Arkansas Hospital Association.
